A futon is a special type of mattress that originates in Japan. They tend to be flat and the interior will generally be filled with cotton. A futon is part of a Japanese bed, and they are sold in sets which includes a blanket, comforter, and pillow. The traditional Japanese pillows may be filled with buckwheat or beans. There are two types of futons available on the market, and these are Japanese futons and Western futons. Japanese futons are manufactured for the purpose of being used on the floor. Often these futons will be placed on tatami floors.
During daylight hours, the Japanese futon is removed from the floor and placed in the closet. These futons should be placed in the sun every so often, and many people strike their futons with special bamboo tools to knock off dust or dirt. The Western futon is based roughly off the Japanese futon, but has a large number of differences. Western futons resemble a couch, and are not placed on the floor like their Japanese counterparts. However, many people use Western futons as both a couch and a bed. They are not put away during daylight hours, and they tend to be much thicker than Japanese futons.
Western futons resemble mattresses which have been folded into shape which looks like a sofa. Futons have become very popular in Western nations because they are a cheap alternative to a bed or couch. Instead of purchasing both a bed and couch separately, a Western futon can function as both and can be purchased for a much cheaper price. In addition to this, they are also easy to move. It generally takes two or more people to move a couch or bed, which can be incovenient if somone is trying to move them alone. The Western futon tends to be much more lighter, and can be moved by one person.
Despite the fact that the Western futon originated from the Japanese model, most Japanese who see Western futons would not see the similarities between the two. Despite this, there is growing market in Japan for Western beds. Most of these beds do not have the springs which are commonly found in Western designs. Here at Furniture Feed we have a list of stores in each state which sales futons. You can read the reviews of others users before buying a specific brand.
The low cost of futons make them an excellent choice for people who are on a budget. It is also good for those who have an apartment. If you have a small apartment, you may find that it is tedious to move in heavy couches or beds. If you successfully move them into your apartment, you will have to figure out how to get them out once you move to a new location. If you don't have someone helping you, using a moving company could be expensive. A futon would be much easier to move and wouldn't require a lot of space. To save money, you may want to purchase both a Japanese futon and a Western futon.
